Always innitiate with a thesis (an opinion)

  • It divides into affirmative and negative group to choose whether to support the thesis or go against it.
  • Providing the reasonsand evidence, Always include the background information to back up your thesis. Tthe candidate need to show the exact statistic and proof to show that the information introduced is valid.
  • In LOGICAL and MORAL strategies to persuade spectators to believe that the candidate’s speech is accurate and agreeable.
  • Reference to the sources are ALWAYS NEEDED. Both primary sources and secondary sources. It can be from the book, interview, expert’s quotation, Newspapers, etc.

Emotive strategies and structuring of an Argument.

  • In the Movie we watched in English Class “The Great Debate”, the debators frequently uses Rhetorical questions to apeal directedly  to thelisteners for action.
  • Using the examples, to show a scenarios or the situation in which to persuade audience into thinking about the situation more deeply and understandly.
  • Quotation from the Expert  which was alsothe technique demonstrated by the debators from the movie.
  • Also a rhetorical statements are also included.
  • The Persussive word uses are must in the debating languages. “Must ”, “Can not ” “Will” “Always ” etc.
  • Manulpilate with words to covince the audiences with emotive subjects and tones. For example,  talking about the past experiences, an anectdote. It sometimes very effective to use anecdote because it could successfully gain sympathy from the listeners.  Creativity is needed for an anecdote because it is a nostalgic story telling for people.
  • Show issues and materials in both negative and positive light. This is the Main purpose of debate
  • Have the tendency to became Repetitive, which is common though if the argument is overly repetitive, the thesis is deemed weak and not well thought. Variation of evidence is required to create strong argument .
  • Requires evulation of the argument to make judegement on the subject.
  •  Thecrucial technique is the use the rival’s ideas and use it against them.
  • In debating, there are always note takers in one team to assess on what has been said and use the opponents’ objective and somehow seek errors or  defect in the speech.
  • It is neccessary to end with a solid conclusion to refere back to the thesis or the candiate’s opinion.

Mother : How dare you! How dare you for  lying to me all this time. I thought I could trust you.

Ellenor: Mom I did nothing to disgrace you, I will swear to you, I promise it would not mean anything to people around me. I promise.

Mother :  I understand, it’s all about the “peer pressure” (contemptuos ).

Ellenor: I was only trying to advertise the fundraiser for charity, thank god! Why do people need to exaggerate everything. Other girls wore much skimpier clothes than we did!

Mother: We?

Ellenor: I was with Jessica, Malenie and Kate.

Mother: Untill  11 pm?

Ellenor: It was a group fundraising campain for Save Haiti. I told you already way before the event, ur school was needed to raise money. It’s called “gift giving ” mom, I think the idea of  “charity” existed way before 1960!

Mother: It did exist in my time thank you very much, but we never presented ourselves with such scanty imsufficient clothing. Ellenor, sweat heart, you are an intelligent young lady but can you explain to me what you are wearing right now?

Ellenor: Jeans?

Mother: why did you  rip them?

Ellenor: It’s called “FASHION” mother, HELLO?

Mother: Hello? Then tell me what is it about showing off you stringed underwear and not tucking them in.

Ellenor: It’s call thongs mother.

Mother: Oh Ellenor, you only call me “mother” when you criticise my lack of “trendiness”  that you people would call. I remember you were so little and even afraid of being in tank top or bathing suite. Now you are all dressed up in meager out fits. Look at you! You look like a prostitute!
